12 Powerful Prayers For Breakthrough

12 Powerful Prayers for Breakthrough & Growth

  1. Lord, reveal all of the areas in my life – when it comes to my relationships, interests, hobbies, hopes, and dreams – where You are not first. I do not want to honor anyone or anything more than I honor You.

“‘Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?’ Jesus answered him, ‘Love the Lord your God with every passion of your heart, with all the energy of your being, and with every thought that is within you.’” - Matthew 22:36-37 TPT

2. Show me all of the people I have yet to forgive. Please give me the strength to be honest with myself about any anger I am holding on to. Help me to stop denying the grudges I am harboring and surrender them in Jesus’ name.

“And when you pray, make sure you forgive the faults of others so that your Father in heaven will also forgive you. But if you withhold forgiveness from others, your Father withholds forgiveness from you.” - Matthew 6:14-15 TPT

3. God, point out all the people around me who feel uncared for and alone. Open my eyes to see them, and show me what I can do to help. I give my schedule to You Lord, interrupt me as I move through daily life. My time and resources are Yours to use, and so am I.

“Love empowers us to fulfill the law of the Anointed One as we carry each other’s troubles. If you think you are somebody too important to stoop down to help another (when really you are not), you are living in deception.” - Galatians 6:2-3 TPT

Jesus said, ‘Forsake the habit of criticizing and judging others, and you will not be criticized and judged in return. Don’t condemn others and you will not be condemned. Forgive over and over, and you will be forgiven over and over. Give generously and generous gifts will be given back to you, shaken down to make room for more. Abundant gifts will pour out upon you with such an overflowing measure that it will run over the top! The measurement of your generosity becomes the measurement of your return.’” - Luke 6:37-38 TPT

4. Lord, show me how to become more mindful of what I say. I want to lift people with my words, not break them. I want to truly hear people, not talk over them. Show me how to speak more intentionally and listen humbly. Teach me how to be led by the Holy Spirit instead of my emotions.

“You can be sure of this: when the day of judgment comes, everyone will be held accountable for every careless word he has spoken. Your very words will be used as evidence, and your words will declare you either innocent or guilty.” - Matthew 12:36-37 TPT

“And never let ugly or hateful words come from your mouth, but instead let your words become beautiful gifts that encourage others; do this by speaking words of grace to help them.” - Ephesians 4:29 TPT

“If the Spirit is the source of our life, we must also allow the Spirit to direct every aspect of our lives. So may we never be arrogant, or look down on another, for each of us is an original. We must forsake all jealousy that diminishes the value of others.” - Galatians 5:25-26 TPT

5. God, when I feel hurt and unheard, open my eyes to see all of the ways You are fighting for me. When my life seems irreparably broken, help me to look above the heartbreak I feel and see Your endless love for me.

“I’ll never forget the trouble, the utter lostness, the taste of ashes, the poison I’ve swallowed. I remember it all—oh, how well I remember—the feeling of hitting the bottom. But there’s one other thing I remember, and remembering, I keep a grip on hope: God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, His merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They’re created new every morning. How great your faithfulness! I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over). He’s all I’ve got left… When life is heavy and hard to take, go off by yourself. Enter the silence. Bow in prayer. Don’t ask questions: Wait for hope to appear. Don’t run from trouble. Take it full-face. The ‘worst’ is never the worst.” - Lamentations 3:19-24, 28-30 The Message

“Day by day the Lord watches the good deeds of the godly, and he prepares for them his forever-reward. Even in a time of disaster he will watch over them, and they will always have more than enough no matter what happens.” - Psalm 37:18-19 TPT

6. Heavenly Father, please examine my heart and reveal all of the ways I am still affected by shame. Like the wonderful Gardener that You are, uproot the shame satan planted and cultivate Your love there, instead. I know You are doing a good work in me, God, and I don’t want to allow anything to get in the way of the healing You are bringing into my life.

“At last we have freedom, for Christ has set us free! We must always cherish this truth and firmly refuse to go back into the bondage of our past.” -Galatians 5:1 TPT

“Don’t you know that when you allow even a little lie into your heart, it can permeate your entire belief system?” - Galatians 5:9 TPT

7. God, please give me the courage to do what is right even when it’s not easy. Make me into a representative who truly represents who You are. Teach me how to fight for justice and stand for truth. The prayers of the hurting and oppressed are always heard by You, so please soften my heart for their cause as well.

“Learn what it means to do what is good by seeking righteousness and justice! Rescue the oppressed [vindicate the victim]. Uphold the rights of the fatherless and defend the widow’s cause.” - Isaiah 1:17 TPT

8. Lord, what concerns You the most about the world right now? What crises are heavy on Your heart, oh God? Open my eyes. Open my heart. Help me to care about all people, and not merely those I have the most in common with.

“Never hold a grudge or try to get even, but plan your life around the noblest way to benefit others. Do your best to live as everybody’s friend.” - Romans 12:17-18 TPT

“Then the godly will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty and give you food and something to drink? When did we see you with no place to stay and invite you in? When did we see you poorly clothed and cover you? When did we see you sick and tenderly care for you, or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Don’t you know? When you cared for one of the least of these, my little ones, my true brothers and sisters, you demonstrated love for me.’” - Matthew 25:37-40 TPT

9. Teach me true wisdom, Father. In what ways do I think I am right when really, I am wrong? Hearing the truth may hurt at first, but truth from You always leads to freedom!

"Don’t live with a lofty mind-set, thinking you are too important to serve others, but be willing to do menial tasks and identify with those who are humble minded. Don’t be smug or even think for a moment that you know it all…” - Romans 12:16 TPT

“So why fool yourself and live under an illusion? Make no mistake about it, if anyone thinks he is wise by the world’s standards, he will be made wiser by being a fool for God! For what the world says is wisdom is actually foolishness in God’s eyes. As it is written: The cleverness of the know-it-alls becomes the trap that ensnares them.” - 1 Corinthians 3:18-19 TPT

10. What is interfering the most in my relationship with You right now? God, please expose every sin and distraction so I can let them go and hear Your voice.

“Rather, your sinful deeds have built a barrier between you and your God. Your sins have made God turn his face from you so that he does not hear your prayers.” - Isaiah 59:2 TPT

Let me emphasize this: As you yield to the dynamic life and power of the Holy Spirit, you will abandon the cravings of your self-life. When your self-life craves the things that offend the Holy Spirit you hinder him from living free within you! And the Holy Spirit’s intense cravings hinder your self-life from dominating you! So then, the two incompatible and conflicting forces within you are your self-life of the flesh and the new creation life of the Spirit.

…The behavior of the self-life is obvious: Sexual immorality, lustful thoughts, pornography, chasing after things instead of God, manipulating others, hatred of those who get in your way, senseless arguments, resentment when others are favored, temper tantrums, angry quarrels, only thinking of yourself, being in love with your own opinions, being envious of the blessings of others, murder, uncontrolled addictions, wild parties, and all other similar behavior.

But the fruit produced by the Holy Spirit within you is divine love in all its varied expressions: joy that overflows, peace that subdues, patience that endures, kindness in action, a life full of virtue, faith that prevails, gentleness of heart, and strength of spirit. Never set the law above these qualities, for they are meant to be limitless.” - Galatians 16-17, 19-23 TPT

11. God, help me to slow down. Teach me to be still and know You are God. Help me to live my life knowing that my importance does not depend on me staying needlessly busy - my value and purpose comes from You alone.

“Help us to remember that our days are numbered, and help us to interpret our lives correctly. Set your wisdom deeply in our hearts so that we may accept your correction.”  - Psalm 90:12 TPT

12. Father, please knock the walls down that I have built around my heart. Teach me how to love without fear. You created me to love and to be loved – I don’t want the pain of my past to make me guarded and lonely for life.

“We have come into an intimate experience with God’s love, and we trust in the love he has for us. God is love! Those who are living in love are living in God, and God lives through them. By living in God [in relationship with God], love has been brought to its full expression in us so that we may fearlessly face the day of judgment [*Footnote: Love provides us with no reason to fear the future or to fear punishment from God.], because all that Jesus now is, so are we in this world. Love never brings fear, for fear is always related to punishment. But love’s perfection drives the fear of punishment far from our hearts. Whoever walks constantly afraid of punishment has not reached love’s perfection. Our love for others is our grateful response to the love God first demonstrated to us.” - 1 John 4:16-19 TPT
